Driving the length of the Pyrenees is one of Europe's great road trips. This route weaves between France, Spain and Andorra.

Days 1–2: Basque coast

Start in Biarritz and Bayonne; ride up La Rhune and visit Espelette.

Day 3: Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port

Explore the Camino town and the Irouléguy vineyards. Guide.

Day 4: Vallée d'Ossau

Drive via Pau to the Lac de Bious-Artigues, then over the Col d'Aubisque (summer) to Argelès-Gazost.

Days 5–6: Gavarnie and Pic du Midi

The Cirque de Gavarnie, then the Col du Tourmalet and Pic du Midi.

Day 7: Luchon

Over the Cols d'Aspin and Peyresourde to Luchon and the Lac d'Oô.

Days 8–9: Val d'Aran and Aigüestortes

Cross into Spain to Vielha, then the Vall de Boí churches and Aigüestortes.

Days 10–11: Andorra

Via La Seu d'Urgell to Andorra: hike, shop and soak at Caldea.

Day 12: Cerdanya

Puigcerdà, Llívia and a ride on the Train Jaune.

Days 13–14: Mediterranean

Via Villefranche-de-Conflent and the Canigou to Collioure and Banyuls.

Note: the high passes (Tourmalet, Aubisque, Portet, some Spanish cols) are usually only open from late spring to autumn. One-way car hire between France and Spain can carry high fees; consider a French-only one-way.
